OAKLEAF Waste Management Executed a Successful Business Recovery Test

OAKLEAF Waste Management, the nation's fastest growing waste management services company executed a successful annual business recovery test recently at CAPS (Computer Alternative Processing Sites) in Shelton, CT. In the event of a local disaster OAKLEAF has the resources to continue operations at their business recovery site within 2 - 4 hours. This includes full recovery of their data center and restoration of voice and data communications.

As part of their disaster recovery strategy, OAKLEAF installed a series of servers at CAPS that mirror the company's production environment. The test consisted of alerting CAPS of a simulated disaster, requesting backup tapes from Iron Mountain, OAKLEAF's records and data management service located in Boston Massachusetts, (OAKLEAF archives backup tapes at Iron Mountain twice a week), forwarding their phone lines and toll free numbers to CAPS, and dispatching their disaster recovery team to prepare the site and restore their backup servers with production data. OAKLEAF had teams from all departments at CAPS to perform the same tasks they do on a daily basis at their East Hartford facility. OAKLEAF's IT department checked the work performed and validated the data. The test was monitored by CAPS personnel and a certificate of successful completion was awarded to OAKLEAF. OAKLEAF has been executing its business recovery plan yearly since 1999.
